Katy Perry: A Political Jam?

It doesn’t seem like it’s been 4 years since Katy Perry’s put out an album, the pop powerhouse has taken a slight hiatus from the scene. Of course she hasn’t entirely stayed out of the mix since the 2013 release of PRISM, she has dropped a couple singles. Her 2014 party jam This is How We Do with Riff Raff was a playlist favorite for a moment- however besides that we haven’t seen much from the bodacious brunette. All of that changed today when she dropped her newest single Changed to The Rhythm debuting a new sound and a political statement.

Making a departure from her early alternative sounds and going in a more pop direction, Katy Perry became the quintessential popstar of the late 2000’s. She’s now shedded both sounds- or so it seems- with her new release. Collaborating with reggaeton artist Skip Marley on a song with a powerful political message and a bubbly, disco EDM beat. Sending across a message of not staying in a bubble- to open your eyes to the problems we need to fix in the world, Katy has gone political and it’s actually pretty great.

Katy Perry hasn’t been quiet about her political stances in the past, proudly making appearances at Democratic events and speaking up on Twitter. However this is the first time the California girl has let her political stance enter her music. Serving a message about becoming unchained to what is happening and break the pattern on a hot beat we can all vibe too. Listen to her new single on Spotify now!
